Time is priceless for everyone and it has become a valuable asset, desired by all of us. We find it difficult to recreate the time relativity through specific projects. This is what the architects from Phyd Arquitectura intended through their project. They wanted to capture the essence of this theory and they were inspired by time traveling and managed to recreate the flow of time and lightness of air. A beautiful idea that proved that architecture, space and time are compatible.
This project is actually a building located in Almonda, Portugal. The layout of the former industrial building made them think of the time machine and they incorporated this idea through different techniques. They are talking here about Perforation, a mechanism that allowed them to bring spots of light inside that create the impression of a sky at dusk.
The guys at Phyd Arquitectura used light and contrasting colors to create a unified, continuous space. What is also contrasting is the cold and grey steel exterior and the warm, orange interior. This is how from the outside you can see that this is no ordinary building.
They put it very nice: “We tried, through architecture and this time machine, to build spaces where people could experience the lightness and density of time and its different temporalities.”
