The Greatest Running Shoe Ever
At least that’s what they say. Judging by the insane amount of love towards the adidas Ultra BOOST, we might as well call it the most hyped running shoe since January 2015. With customers ranging from pro runners to style icons and sneakerheads, the Ultra BOOST turns out to be the perfect blend between sportswear and streetwear. With more than 25 colorways available and special collabs with the likes of Hypebeast, Highsnobiety, Sneakersnstuff, Solebox and Wood Wood.

The UltraBOOST’s steady ascension towards becoming a classic sneaker silhouette kicked off with Kanye sporting an all-white pair of UltraBOOSTs and the rest it what you would imagine. Sales rose, popularity rose as well and the BOOST was on its way. People started wearing the sneakers everywhere, making the pair one of the greatest. Then came the Uncaged version, the collabs and the fame. Crowned Sneaker Of The Year by many lifestyle sites and praised by sneakerheads, the UltraBOOST keeps expanding.
However, behind its legitimate hype, the adidas UltraBOOST is a sneaker with serious research behind it. In 2012, BOOST technology was introduced to return even more energy than other midsoles by fusing together thermoplastic polyurethane (thanks Google) particles to raise temperature resistance and ensure a more efficient running experience. In 2015, Primeknit joined the melting pot and the UltraBOOST became adidas‘ best shoe to date, both technically and regarding sales.
Why You Should Consider Getting Yours Customized
Just ’cause you can (and a few other reasons). Customizing sneakers is becoming a trend among sneakerheads and most of the time the work is done on staple silhouettes. Since we’ve already called the BOOST one of the greatest, its only natural to get your own pair customized.
Everybody’s sporting UltraBOOSTs and you want to stand out? Customize.
You hate neon colors/ more than 2 colors on a sneaker/ basic colorways? Customize.
You want this classic silhouette to be part of your collection and make it unique? Customize.
You came up with THE BEST idea for a colorway but adidas won’t answer your emails? Customize.
If UltraBOOST is already part of almost every sneakerhead’s kicks rotation pic on Instagram except yours and even though it can be found in over 25 colorways, you feel like you can’t find your true match, customizing is the way to go.
The silhouette of the sneaker itself and the technology behind it are reason enough to want a pair, but if you’re not feeling the colorways and you’re skeptical when it comes to giving your sneakers a makeover, here are some examples of excellent custom work by GRAURE that really make the UltraBOOST reach its full potential.
adidas UltraBOOST Blackout Custom
Black on black on black. This custom work brings elegance to the UltraBOOST with the subtle variation of shades. The silhouette itself looks more lifestyle oriented and GRAURE did a flawless job making them look crisp, clean and bold. This one’s definitely for the collectors and die-hard UltraBOOST fans.
adidas UltraBOOST Red Moon Custom
This one’s for the show. Black and red go together like no other colors and the combination makes the UltraBOOSTs shine for real. Glossy and bloody, the Red Moon custom is a hybrid between bold and subtle, the black making the red stand out and the red making the black look darker than ever. The mix of shades brings out the Primeknit’s pattern, bringing out the running shoe origin of the UltraBOOST.
