Jhene Aiko just released a self-directed video for her latest song Maniac in which she exposes one of her many sides, this one being the (very) sexual one. Maniac is a concept that started with the release of the song itself, followed by a photoshoot led by photographer Steven Tyler.
The photoshoot was based on Japanese rope bondage art shibari and, as Jhene herself stated for Rolling Stone, bringing the concept behind Maniac to life was a chance to act out her fantasies. In the same interview, the singer reveals the profound meaning of her project, highlighting the fact that what some use as torture (thus being tied up and gagged in the video) some use for pleasure.
Maniac is the first song to be released from her upcoming sophomore album which is yet to be named, following her successful last LP Souled Out (2014). After being featured on many songs from famous rappers and creating an album with Big Sean under the name Twenty88, it looks like Jhene Aiko and her newfound sound are ready to set sail once more and we’re in for a treat in 2017.
