MIMA

MIMA opens in Brussels. Artists SWOON, FAILE, MOMO AND MAYA HAYUK - the vandallist (5)

Millennium Iconoclast Museum of Art opened last week in Brussels, Belgium. The first museum of its kind, dedicated to contemporary artwork is a radical space with huge potential, and the inaugural exhibition establishes a powerful tone.

Graphic design, illustration, comic design, tattoo design, graffiti, street art, plastic arts, wheat pasting, sculpture, text, advertising, pop, story-telling, aerosol, brushwork, and naturally, dripping paint.

Certainly street culture has been blending these influences together in a continuous hunger for experimentation; punk with hip-hop, skateboarding with tattoo, performance art with graffiti – for the past four decades at least.

With the inaugural exhibition “City Lights” MOMO, Swoon, Faile, and Maya Hayuk each carry what made their street practice exclusive, but with an extra dimension of experience and evolution.

Read more on the exhibition on the official website. The impressive inaugural exhibition, City Lights, is on view through the end of August and we can’t wait to see what will follow next.
