Jim Denevan is based in Santa Cruz, California, U.S.A.
Denevan creates temporary drawings on sand, earth, and ice that are end up erased by waves or weather. The artist’s work is performed primarily outside California but also many other locations around the world.
Live performances of drawings for the public were included in exhibitions at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in 2005 and also at the Vancouver Sculpture Biennale in Vancouver, Canada in 2010.
